APPSC ASO Recruitment 2026 is open for 196 Assistant Statistical Officer posts in the A.P. Economics & Statistical Subordinate Service. Applications run from 13 October to 2 November 2026, up to 11:59 PM. The notified pay scale is ₹37,640–₹1,15,500.

The recruitment is covered by APPSC Notification No. 20/2026, dated 13 October 2026. This guide helps applicants check their degree subjects, understand the examination and complete the application with the right supporting records.

Start with your marksheets: Compare the subjects printed on your academic records with the qualification routes below. A degree title alone may leave an important eligibility question unanswered.

When comparing opportunities, write down the vacancy entry relevant to your own category and local-status claim. Keep the supporting certificate beside that note so you can check the application against the same records.

Educational Qualification: Who Can Apply?

The recognised-university degree routes are:

  • Statistics as a main subject in a bachelor’s degree; or
  • Mathematics, Economics, Commerce or Computer Science as a main subject, with Statistics studied as a paper in one, two or all three years, as prescribed.

The qualification must be held by the detailed notification date: 13 October 2026.

A useful eligibility check: List your main subjects and underline every Statistics paper on your marksheets. For example, a Commerce graduate should check the actual Statistics paper rather than assume that every B.Com programme satisfies the condition. If a paper has an unfamiliar title, ask the university for its syllabus or clarification before relying on it.

Keep a clear scan of each relevant marksheet. A consolidated result showing only the degree name may be less useful when you need to demonstrate exactly what you studied.

Age Limit and Application Fees

Age: 18–44 years on 1 July 2026. Upper-age relaxations include five years for SC/ST/BC/EWS and ten years for PBD candidates. Other service-related concessions are set out in paragraph 5.2.

Fee componentAmount
Application processing₹250
Examination₹80
Total when both apply₹330

Paragraph 8.2 exempts eligible SC/ST/BC, PBD and ex-servicemen applicants, A.P. White Card families and specified unemployed youth from the ₹80 examination fee. The processing fee remains payable. Other-state applicants must check the separate conditions and exceptions in clauses 8.2(iv)–(v).

Calculate age using the stated reference date and your date-of-birth record. Before paying, compare the displayed fee with the category and exemption you entered. Resolve a mismatch while you still have the form and documents open.

APPSC ASO Exam Pattern and CPT

The official brief notice and examination annexure provide a single-level CBRT without a screening test.

PaperSubjectQuestionsMinutesMarks
IGeneral Studies and Mental Ability150150150
IISubject150150150
Total300300300

Negative marking: Each wrong answer attracts a deduction of one-third of the marks assigned to that question.

Computer Proficiency Test: A 60-minute practical test for 100 marks; qualifying scores are 30 for SC/ST/PBD, 35 for BC and 40 for OC. Selection uses written-examination merit, subject to qualifying the CPT.

Use separate practice sessions for answering objective questions and performing tasks on a computer. Reading a list of software commands is a different activity from completing a document or spreadsheet accurately within a time limit.

What to Study: Syllabus Overview

Paper I: Current affairs, science, history, geography, polity, economy, environment, disaster management, reasoning and data analysis.

Paper II: Economics, financial accounting, computer basics, data collection, probability, averages, dispersion, skewness, correlation, time series and index numbers.

Use the complete official syllabus as your checklist. Colour-code topics as “comfortable,” “needs practice” and “new.” Start with a short diagnostic exercise, then allocate more time to the areas where errors keep recurring. Include worked numerical problems alongside reading.

How to Apply Online

  1. Open the official APPSC website and register or check your OTPR profile.
  2. Sign in, open online application submission and select Notification No. 20/2026.
  3. Complete the form and review every entry against your certificates.
  4. Choose Save & Submit, pay the applicable fee and download the submitted application and payment reference.

OTPR registration alone is not an application. Keep the final application PDF in a clearly named folder so it is easy to find when hall tickets or verification instructions are issued.

Suggested preparation folder: Date-of-birth proof, degree certificate, subject-wise marksheets, photograph and signature, plus documents supporting any community, local-status, disability, service or fee-exemption claim. Check the current instructions for the exact formats applicable to you.
