These figures are basic pay. Allowances and deductions affect the amount received each month, so the table should not be read as a fixed take-home salary. Annexure B of the notification gives the RRB-wise, railway-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution.
Educational Qualification and Age Limit
Applicants need Class 12, or an equivalent qualification, with at least 50% aggregate marks. The 50% requirement is waived for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, and for candidates holding qualifications higher than Class 12.
The required qualification must be completed by the application closing date. Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed qualification are not eligible. Here, “undergraduate” identifies the recruitment level; a university degree is not the minimum requirement.
The standard age range is 18–30 years as on 1 January 2027. Upper-age concessions include:
- SC/ST: 5 years.
- OBC, Non-Creamy Layer: 3 years.
- PwBD: 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC-NCL and 15 years for SC/ST, subject to post suitability.
Other eligible groups should check paragraph 5.2. Use the date of birth recorded in your Class 10 certificate when checking eligibility and completing the form.
Choose post preferences carefully
Start by checking which posts you qualify for, including the medical and disability-suitability conditions. Then compare the vacancies within the RRB you intend to select. A larger vacancy number alone does not establish that a post suits your circumstances.
Write your proposed preference order on paper before entering it online. This makes it easier to compare the available choices and review them calmly, especially if someone else is helping you fill in the application.
Application Fee and Refund Rules
| Candidate group | Fee | Refund after attending CBT 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Applicants outside the concession groups below | ₹500 | ₹400, after applicable bank charges |
| SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, women, transgender, minority and eligible EBC candidates | ₹250 | ₹250, after applicable bank charges |
CBT 1 attendance is required for the applicable refund. The current notice also prescribes an operational Aadhaar-seeded bank account for the refund process. Check paragraph 7.4 and follow the account-validation instructions shown during application.
EBC fee concession is a separate provision from EWS reservation and OBC status. Select a concession only after checking its definition and the required supporting document. Keep the payment receipt with your application copy so that both records are easy to retrieve.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
The notified stages are CBT 1, CBT 2, document verification and medical examination. RRB retains the right to hold additional CBTs where necessary.
The separate typing test has been removed for Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist under this CEN. Applicants for these posts should nevertheless continue practising computer work and typing because proficiency will be evaluated after appointment.
| Component | CBT 1 | CBT 2 |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | 40 questions | 50 questions |
| Mathematics | 30 questions | 35 questions |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 30 questions | 35 questions |
| Total | 100 questions | 120 questions |
| Standard duration | 90 minutes | 90 minutes |
Each question carries one mark; an incorrect answer attracts a one-third-mark deduction. Eligible candidates entitled to a scribe receive 120 minutes. The section-wise distribution is indicative.
A practical way to begin preparation
Use a short practice session to identify where you lose marks: understanding the question, recalling a method, calculation or time management. Record those errors in a notebook and revise them before attempting another set. This gives each practice session a clear purpose.
For example, if percentage questions repeatedly take too long, practise the basic method first and then attempt a timed set. Include regular reading and reasoning practice alongside mathematics, using the syllabus in the current notification to organise your study list.

Application mistakes to avoid
- Submitting more than one application: apply to only one RRB under this CEN. Multiple applications can lead to rejection and debarment.
- Assuming every entry can be corrected: account-creation details and the chosen RRB cannot be changed through the modification window. Permitted corrections carry a ₹250 fee per occasion.
- Leaving the form to someone else without reviewing it: personally check every declaration before submission, even when using an application centre.
- Losing access to contact details: use an email account and phone number you can continue checking throughout recruitment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Class 12 pass candidate apply without a degree?
Yes, provided the candidate meets the prescribed marks requirement or an applicable exemption, along with the other eligibility conditions.
Does a higher qualification remove every eligibility condition?
No. The exemption concerns the 50% Class 12 marks requirement. Age, qualification completion, medical fitness and other applicable conditions still need to be checked.
Is paying the fee enough to claim a refund?
No. The applicable refund depends on attending CBT 1 and meeting the notice's refund and bank-account conditions.
Can the correction window be used to choose another RRB?
No. The chosen RRB cannot be changed through that window, so review this choice before submitting.
Where should candidates check the exam date?
Check subsequent notices on the official RRB website. The detailed notification says examination schedules will be communicated separately.
