Searching for IIM colleges in India? The Indian Institutes of Management offer several routes into management education, from postgraduate MBA programmes to selected courses after Class 12. Finding the correct campus website is the first step towards comparing admission requirements, fees and career opportunities.
This guide brings together the 22 IIMs in India, their official websites and campus addresses. It also explains how to choose a suitable programme, understand the admission process and prepare a realistic education budget.
What Does IIM Mean?
IIM stands for Indian Institute of Management. Each institute publishes its own programme information, selection policies, fee schedules and admission notices. The MBA/PGP route for graduates and the integrated-management route after Class 12 have different entry requirements.
Start with your current qualification and career goal. A final-year degree student should examine postgraduate admission policies; a Class 12 student should check undergraduate or integrated programmes; an experienced employee should compare programmes designed for working professionals.

IIM Guwahati currently lists Tech City, Bongora as its transit campus and Marabhita, near Palasbari, as its planned permanent-campus location.
Courses Offered by IIMs and the Main Admission Routes
Programme names and availability differ between institutes. The examples below help applicants identify the correct category; check the qualification awarded, teaching mode, duration and selection policy on the programme's official page.
| Programme category | Who should explore it? | Duration / format | Admission guidance and official example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flagship MBA / PGP | Graduates and eligible final-year degree students | Commonly two years, full time | CAT is the main domestic entry route, followed by the institute's selection process. See IIM Ahmedabad MBA admissions. |
| Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) | Students after Class 12 who meet the programme's conditions | Five years at participating institutes | Entrance routes vary. See IIM Indore IPM and IIM Jammu IPM. |
| One-year MBA for experienced professionals | Graduates with the specified work experience | One year at selected IIMs | Check accepted tests and experience requirements. Example: IIM Ahmedabad MBA-PGPX. |
| Programmes for working professionals | Employees and entrepreneurs seeking a suitable study schedule | Programme-specific; may involve weekend, blended or campus sessions | Check attendance, work-experience and employer requirements. Example: IIM Bangalore PGPEM. |
| Doctoral programmes | Applicants interested in management research and academic careers | Research-based; duration depends on the programme | Read the separate doctoral qualifications, test and interview rules in the relevant IIM's doctoral section. |
| Executive education and certificate programmes | Professionals seeking skills in a particular area | Varies by course | Check the credential, delivery partner, eligibility and placement support. A certificate and an MBA are different qualifications. |
For Class 12 students: IIM Indore conducts its IPM Aptitude Test. IIM Jammu's published 2026–31 policy uses JIPMAT, conducted by NTA for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. These are separate routes from CAT. Check the next admission cycle's notice for permitted Class 12 passing years, marks, age conditions where applicable and application dates.
IIM MBA Eligibility: What Graduates Should Check
For the regular postgraduate management route, check both the entrance-test requirements and the selected IIM's programme policy. The following is a starting guide, consistent with IIM Ahmedabad's domestic PGP 2027–29 admission policy and IIM Calcutta's MBA 2027–29 policy.
- Qualification: A recognised bachelor's degree or an accepted equivalent qualification.
- Graduation marks: Generally at least 50% or equivalent CGPA, with 45% for SC, ST and PwD candidates under the published policies.
- Final-year applicants: May apply subject to the required completion certificates, results and institute deadlines.
- Academic background: Applicants can come from different disciplines; IIMA describes a student mix including arts, commerce, science and professional streams.
- Programme-specific conditions: Specialist, executive and doctoral courses can have additional requirements.
Minimum eligibility is only the starting point. IIMs use separate shortlisting and final-selection rules. Read the current batch policy before estimating your admission chances.
How Does the IIM MBA Admission Process Work?
- Choose the programme: Confirm that its curriculum, study mode and entry conditions suit you.
- Read the current CAT notice: Use the official CAT website for registration, eligibility and examination updates.
- Complete the required applications: Select the relevant programmes and follow any additional institute or admission-process registration instructions.
- Appear for the required entrance test: Monitor your score and the institutes' published overall and sectional requirements.
- Respond to shortlist instructions: Complete the interview, writing test or other stages required by the programme.
- Review the offer: Check fees, acceptance deadlines, documents, refund rules and reporting instructions before confirming a seat.
A high CAT score alone does not guarantee admission. For example, IIM Calcutta's current policy considers CAT and other academic or profile factors at shortlisting and uses a separate final-selection formula. The criteria and weights differ by institute and batch.
IIM Fees: How to Estimate the Full Cost
There is no single fee applicable to every IIM or course. Compare the fee document for the exact programme, batch and applicant category. A headline tuition figure may leave out expenses you will still need to pay.
A Verified Fee Example: IIM Bangalore PGP 2026–28
The official IIM Bangalore PGP fees and financial-aid page publishes the following figures for its domestic 2026–28 batch:
| Component | Published amount |
|---|---|
| Two-year programme fee | ₹26,00,000 |
| Separate general caution deposit | ₹30,000 |
| Mess advance | ₹30,000 each term |
The programme fee includes specified items such as tuition, course materials and hostel room rent. Read the full page for inclusions and additional charges. This is one programme's published batch fee; it is not a fee quotation for other IIMs or future batches.
Student Budget Checklist
- Programme or tuition fees and the instalment schedule.
- Hostel charges, food or mess advances and deposits.
- Laptop, internet, local travel and personal expenses.
- Any required immersion, exchange or field-visit costs.
- Refund conditions and payment deadlines.
- For working applicants, income forgone during a full-time course.
A useful comparison is: programme fees + additional compulsory costs + living and travel budget − confirmed financial assistance. Keep a deposit separate from recurring expenditure and record whether it is refundable.
Scholarships and Financial Assistance
Check each institute's financial-aid page and relevant government scholarship notices. Assistance depends on the scheme's eligibility, documents, assessment and available support.
For example, IIM Bangalore states that PGP students with annual household income below ₹8 lakh may apply for financial aid. Application eligibility does not mean that every applicant receives the same award. Use the institute's current instructions to check the assessment process.
Students can also explore the National Scholarship Portal, checking whether a specific scheme covers their course and circumstances. When comparing education loans, request the lender's written interest, repayment and total-cost terms before choosing one.
How to Choose an IIM: A Practical Comparison Method
Start with three to five programmes that fit your qualifications and interests. Create a comparison sheet using the questions below.
| What to compare | What to look for | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Programme fit | Core subjects, electives, internships and the qualification awarded | Shows how the course connects with your intended career. |
| Admission policy | Eligibility, sectional cut-offs, academic/profile criteria and interview stages | Helps you build a realistic application plan. |
| Total cost | Batch fee notice, extra expenses, aid conditions and refund rules | Makes the financial commitment easier to compare. |
| Career outcomes | The latest programme-specific placement report, roles, median pay, batch size and reporting definitions | Gives more context than a single highest-salary headline. |
| Campus and study mode | Teaching location, residential requirements, travel and attendance | Helps you assess whether you can manage the programme. |
| Rankings and evidence | The official Management-category ranking and its year, alongside programme information | Keeps the comparison tied to a named source and period. |
For placement comparisons, distinguish annual CTC from monthly take-home pay. Ask what the reported figure includes and compare the same programme and graduating year. A past placement report cannot promise an individual student's future outcome.
Preparation and Documents: What Applicants Can Do Now
For CAT preparation, build regular practice in reading, quantitative skills and data interpretation or logical reasoning. Take timed practice tests and keep an error log. Review the reason for each mistake before increasing the number of mock tests.
For interview preparation, practise explaining your degree subjects, projects, work responsibilities and reasons for studying management. Support your answers with real examples.
Keep a document folder with identity proof, photographs, Class 10 and 12 records, degree marksheets, the relevant scorecard and any certificates requested in the admission notice. Where applicable, add category or disability certificates, work-experience records and income documents for financial aid. Check the prescribed certificate format and validity period.
Career Areas to Explore After Management Study
Depending on the programme and an applicant's skills, management study can support exploration of areas such as marketing, finance, human resources, operations, supply chain, analytics, consulting and entrepreneurship. Read the curriculum and placement reports to see which areas a particular programme supports.
Visitors interested in jobs at an IIM should use that institute's official Careers, Recruitment or Faculty Recruitment section. Faculty, administrative, technical and project vacancies have separate application notices; MBA admission and staff recruitment follow different processes.
